"I can’t make it. Chloe’s lightbulb broke. She’s terrified of the dark and she’s crying alone."

I gritted my teeth and typed back: "You’re skipping the rehearsal? What about the actual wedding tomorrow?"

It was loud on his end, sounding like a busy shopping mall.

"We’ll see. Chloe hasn’t been doing well lately. Just bear with it, okay?"
