I gave her the address, and we returned to the only home I owned in this city, which was not big, just one bedroom and one living room.

“Grace, I’m sorry, everything happened so suddenly, and the place is a little messy.”

She smiled at me and said, “It’s fine, I’ll clean it up for you, and from now on you just focus on recovering.”

I nodded, and I originally wanted to say thank you to her, but when the words reached my lips, I swallowed them back, and I did not know why.

After she helped me sit down by the bed, she began tidying up the room.

She asked me about the car accident, and I could only tell her the rough sequence of events.

After learning that the driver was still on the run, she cursed him out furiously and vented on my behalf.

With her arrival, this home finally had a trace of warmth.

By evening, she made a simple meal and helped me sit at the dining table, and I had wanted to rely on myself, but unfortunately, because I could not see, I could not even pick up the food.

Seeing this, she immediately took my bowl and fork and patiently fed me bite by bite.

Aside from being moved, all I felt was still gratitude.

Only after I finished eating did she begin eating by herself.

“Let’s just make do today, because when we came back, I saw a place selling groceries downstairs, and tomorrow I’ll make you something nourishing.”

I nodded and took the bank card out of my pocket.

“Here, Grace, there should still be some money on this card, so I’ll have to trouble you during this time.”

Hearing this, she immediately pushed the bank card back.

“Ethan, what are you doing?”

“It’s only right that I take care of you, because after all, the two of us are the same, and in this world, you’re the only family I have too.”

“If you act like this, I’m going to get mad.”

I smiled bitterly, and seeing that she would not accept it, I could only change my approach.

“No, Grace, I can’t have you come take care of me and then make you spend your own money too, so keep this card for now and use the money on it whenever you need to buy something.”

“If you don’t accept it, I’ll feel guilty.”

Hearing this, she thought for a while and finally agreed.

“All right then, I’ll hold on to it first, and I’ll tell you how much I spend.”

I nodded.

When night came, after I fumbled my way through washing up, a very real problem appeared before us.

Because of money issues back then, and because I had not considered anything else, I had only wanted a little place of my own in this city.

So the apartment I bought was only one bedroom and one living room.

There was no extra bed, and now that Grace had arrived, I could not possibly let her sleep in the living room.

Grace seemed to notice my embarrassment and asked me.

“Ethan, what’s wrong? Let me help you go rest.”

I hurriedly said, “Grace, why don’t you sleep in my room, and I’ll sleep on the couch.”

To make her agree, I added, “Don’t worry, when I used to stay home alone, I often slept in the living room too.”

“How could that be okay?”

“You’re the patient, and the doctor said you need to rest well, so how could I let you sleep in the living room? Hurry up and sleep in the bedroom.”

“As long as I have a place, I’ll be fine, and that couch is pretty good, much softer than the bed back in the countryside.”

I still wanted to insist, but she had already helped me up and led me toward the bedroom.

Just like that, I was dragged into the bedroom by her, and after she helped me sit down on the bed, she told me to rest well and hurriedly left.

In the end, I could only follow her wishes.

Lying in bed with darkness before my eyes, my thoughts became unusually active.

I thought about many things, from every little memory of living with my parents as a child to today.

I did not know when sleepiness finally came, and I gradually fell asleep.

But I did not know when a wave of thirst woke me up again.

I did not know how long I had slept, and I did not know whether it was day or night now, and I originally wanted to call Grace, but I was also worried that it was nighttime and that waking her would be bad.

So I could only feel my way toward the door.

I gently opened the door, then followed my memory and felt my way toward the water dispenser.

Unexpectedly, I did not know what tripped my foot, and my whole body fell heavily to the floor, making me cry out in pain uncontrollably.

Grace seemed to be startled awake by me too.

“Ethan? What happened?”

She hurriedly got up, ran to my side, and helped me up.

I fell into panic, and my hand instinctively grabbed at something, but I suddenly felt that I had grabbed something soft.

Grace suddenly let out a delicate startled sound.

I immediately sensed that something was wrong and hurriedly withdrew my hand.

“I’m sorry, Grace, I didn’t mean to.”

I did not know where on Grace I had grabbed, but no matter where it was, I should not have done that.

While I was in a panic, Grace held me again, and after I got up from the floor, she asked me with concern.

“What happened? Why did you get up alone in the middle of the night without calling me?”
