He Jailed Me, Now He Begs For Me Back

Chapter 3

2,775 words

The first night back at the old estate, I spent it listening to Daniel and Chloe’s low moans. They were like wild animals, unleashing their deepest desires into the late-night air.

"Daniel, I regret it. I regret letting Alice have you all these years."

"I’m realizing I can’t live without you."

These words, indistinguishable from a declaration of love, deeply moved Daniel. He had waited so long to hear them.

"Chloe, me too. Every day I was with Alice, I felt disgusted."

"Thank God I finally waited for you…"

This was his warning to me.

Only they were the perfect match in this world.

And I was merely an intrusive invader.

"Daniel, aren’t you afraid Alice will get angry?"

"Why would she? She could never bring herself to get angry at me. In her heart, I’m more important than her own life."

"She’s just a desperate doormat."

The next morning, I knocked on the bedroom door next door.

Thanks to my old legal background, I had prepared the divorce papers overnight.

As if to deliberately provoke me, Daniel opened the door, casually wrapped in a towel, his body covered in obvious marks of intimacy.

He held his head high, his eyes disdainful.

"What do you want?"

I silently averted my gaze and handed him the papers.

"I’m here for a divorce."

Daniel laughed absurdly, as if he’d heard the greatest joke in the world.

"You?"

"Divorce me?"

He crossed his arms, his tone full of doubt.

"Alice, what right do you have to bring this up with me?"

Chloe wrapped her arms around Daniel’s waist from behind.

They were openly intimate in front of me, completely ignoring my presence, like two wild animals in heat.

After a long moment, Daniel finally bothered to spare me a bit of his attention.

"Alice, you want a divorce? Fine."

"Get down on your knees and beg me."

I froze.

I hadn’t expected Daniel to make such a difficult demand.

I didn’t understand. He already had his loved one by his side, so why was he deliberately making things hard? Shouldn’t he, like me, want to end this marriage quickly?

Seeing my prolonged silence, Daniel sneered.

"I knew this was just another one of your tricks."

"Are you upset that I’m sleeping with other women? If you can’t handle it, then move out, you useless waste of space."

"I’d like to see where you’ll go after leaving me."

He crushed my dignity to smithereens.

The two most important things to a woman—my reputation and my dignity—had been shattered because of him.

"Do you hate me that much?" I asked unconsciously, voicing the doubt in my heart.

Daniel nodded without hesitation.

"Yes, seeing you makes me physically ill."

I took a heavy breath, pulling the divorce papers back.

And with them, I pulled away the last flicker of hope I had for him.

Since he showed no mercy, I had no reason to wallow in those tiny illusions anymore.
