My Ex-Wife Spent My Cancer Fund on Her Best Friend
Chapter 6
The flashing lights and deafening music in the club made my head pound. I walked up to the VIP lounge.
I pushed the door open and saw Chloe draped intimately over Julian. She had a soft, sensual look on her face that I had never once seen at home.
As I stood there, pale and exhausted, a guy next to them smirked and yelled, "Man, Chloe really has this guy whipped! One call and he runs right over. Unbelievable!"
Julian looked at me with a mocking grin.
"Chloe, your husband is so sweet. He's here to take you home. You should probably go with him."
Chloe frowned and glared at me with pure annoyance. "It was just a game of Truth or Dare, and I lost. Why did you rush over here like an idiot? Get lost."
She sat up, didn't even spare me a glance, and leaned back onto Julian's shoulder.
Julian wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer to his chest while giving me a provocative smirk.
I took a deep breath. For the first time, I felt genuinely disgusted by their little game.
"If there's nothing else, I'm leaving."
I turned around to leave without a shred of regret. But before I could close the door, a sharp sting hit my shoulder blade.
I turned back. Chloe was standing under the dim lights, looking incredibly hurt. A shattered glass rolled on the floor.
Why did she look so hurt? She had gotten exactly what she wanted.
"Leo, you're an asshole!"
My body froze, but I was just too tired. I didn't have the energy to play these mind games with her anymore.
"Chloe, I'm done playing your games."
With that, I walked away. I had already left the signed divorce papers in our old house. I didn't touch her things. If she saw them, she would sign.
I was the one paying the mortgage on that house anyway; she just treated it like a free rental. I had even thought about adding her name to the deed once.
What did she say back then?
“Leo, I don't want your cheap suburban house. Our marriage was just an impulsive mistake anyway. I'm not that superficial. “
“I don't care about this place. Once Julian becomes a famous artist, I'll be living in a mansion.”
Back then, those words felt like a bucket of ice water poured over my burning heart.
But now, I was actually glad. At least I had a house to sell, or I'd literally be waiting to die.
It was almost funny. I made over $100,000 a year, yet I had to sell my house just to pay for my cancer treatment.
But at least I woke up in time to save myself.
The agent was efficient, and the new rental was perfect.
That night, as soon as I lay down, my phone started buzzing insanely. I answered, and Chloe screamed into the phone, sounding completely hysterical.
"Leo! Why did you leave tonight? Why didn't you take me with you?"
Her angry demands made me want to laugh. How was she the one playing the victim here?
"Chloe, I'm a human being, not your dog."
"I'm tired, Chloe. So tired."
The line went quiet, with only her faint breathing on the other end.
Looking out at the streetlights, I let out a weary sigh.
"Let's just end this. Let's get a divorce."
