Chapter 4

Serena understood his meaning, and a coy, seductive look crossed her face.

Within seconds, Ethan let out a long, shuddering breath.

He pulled Serena close, holding her tightly in his arms, and said,

"Serena, get better quickly. Once you're fully recovered, we'll immediately have a child of our own."

"It's a shame Aurora couldn't have children and left me no heir. So, the child you bear will be the heir to the Thorne Group."

I leaned against the door, the bitterness in my heart spreading through my limbs.

Was it that "I" didn't want children?

Was it that "I" didn't have children?

It was "he" who stripped me of my children and my right to bear them!

Yet now, in his words, it had become my own failing.

Fine, I'll make their dreams come true.

I'll leave.

I stood up, and my suitcase accidentally made a sound.

As I reached the front door, the two of them, having straightened their clothes, emerged from the room.

Ethan came over to grab my suitcase, frowning. "Aurora! Where do you think you're going?!"

Serena put on a wronged expression, pouting.

"Sister, it's all my fault. It's normal for you to be in a bad mood after surgery. I should have let you hit me a few times to let off steam instead of calling Ethan."

"Why don't you hit me now? Please don't be mad at Ethan, okay?"

She extended her arm, pretending to let me hit her.

Ethan angrily pulled her arm down.

"Aurora, you're an adult. Do you really need to act like a child, throwing a tantrum and running away from home?!"

"Serena is kind-hearted; she pities you and indulges your bad temper, but I won't."

"If you have the guts, then go! But if you dare step out that door, don't ever come back!"

He finished speaking and stalked back to the living room in a huff.

Even though I'd already seen through everything,

His words still pierced me deeply.

My eyes stung, and I turned to leave.

Serena grabbed my arm.

"What else do you want?" I asked, my tone sharp.

Serena said triumphantly,

"You saw us in the guest room, didn't you? Was it good? Have you ever seen Ethan look so satisfied?"

"Ethan also said that once I use "your" uterus to give birth to our son, he'll give him the Thorne Group's inheritance!"

"Oh, and do you know why you had over twenty miscarriages before finally carrying that baby to term?"

She saw my grip on the suitcase tighten and laughed even harder.

"Because Ethan loved me so much, he only wanted to give "me" the healthiest and best heart, hahahaha..."

At this, I couldn't take it anymore and pushed her.

Serena practically begged me to lay a hand on her.

She immediately started screaming.

I was consumed by grief and fury. I couldn't believe that from the moment I got pregnant, it had all been a trap.

Seven years of loving companionship, my supposedly proud marriage,

Turned out to be nothing but a complete and utter scam!

I broke into hysterical laughter.

Ethan came out and saw the scene.

Without asking what happened, he immediately launched into a furious tirade,

"Aurora, are you crazy?! If you want to leave, then get out! You're not allowed back in this house until you apologize to Serena!"

He cradled the tiny scratch on Serena's finger, blowing gently on it with exaggerated tenderness.

"Me apologize to her? Dream on!" I stated firmly.

"SMACK!" A heavy slap made my head ring.
