Carter walked out of the kitchen, carrying a steaming plate to the dining table.

Seeing me "groping" my way forward, he quickly rushed over to support me.

"Let me help you, babe. Let's wash your hands first."

I took the opportunity to look closely at Carter's face.

He was an average-looking guy. If he had any redeeming qualities, it was his gentle voice and his great cooking skills.

We sat down at the table. Carter lovingly placed food onto my plate, reminding me to be careful because it was hot, and gently wiped the corner of my mouth.

After dinner, he packed the leftovers into containers so I could easily microwave them the next day.

His kindness made it almost impossible to believe he was using me. But that text message was damning. He had to be connected to the crash.

I had to investigate this myself. I wouldn't stop until I knew the absolute truth.

After dinner, Carter continued playing the role of the perfect, doting boyfriend.

He guided me to the sofa, reminded me to take my medicine, and then went to wash the dishes and sweep the floor.

He even took me for a walk in the evening, encouraging me to face the outside world bravely.

For a second, I wondered if I had hallucinated that text.

Could a man like this really plot to murder me?

The next morning, Carter got ready for work. He sweetly gave me his usual safety reminders, grabbed his car keys, and left.

The moment the door closed, I changed my clothes, threw on a face mask, and slipped out after him.

He was driving the luxury SUV my father had left me. It was highly recognizable, making it easy for my Uber driver to tail him.

His car stopped in front of a high-end private club.

My heart sank. Carter told me he worked as a software engineer at a small tech company. Why was he entering an expensive private club?

This only confirmed he was hiding something big.

I followed him inside and stopped right outside his VIP booth, pressing my ear to the door.

Inside, I heard the rowdy laughter of men and women.

"Hey Carter, it’s been a while. Have you locked down that rich blind girl yet?"

"Haha, what's the rush? It's only a matter of time."

The first voice was an unfamiliar man's. The second one was definitely Carter's.

Leaning against the wall, my blood ran cold.
