A Son Appeared on My Records; I Made the Forger Regret It

Single and past the usual age, I went to the police station to update my residency records and discovered, out of nowhere, that I had a son. After some quiet digging, I found out it was my cousin Miriam's doing. She'd had her own son pose as mine so she could take the enrollment slot tied to my home in the top school district, and she'd already gotten him into the best elementary school in the area. When I confronted Miriam about it, she just said, without a trace of concern, "Letitia, it's not like you're ever getting married anyway. That school slot was just sitting there going to waste."
