A Son Appeared on My Records; I Made the Forger Regret It
Chapter 3
I was shaking with rage.
I wanted to tear her apart and could barely stop myself.
Just as I was about to, I caught a flicker of cunning in her eyes.
Something clicked in my head, and I forced myself to hold back.
For her to pull something like this, she must have been planning it for a long time, doing all her homework.
Did she really take me for a fool?
Of course not.
She knew perfectly well that a cheap trick like making me a godmother wouldn't fool me, and she'd done it anyway.
Which meant she'd already set a trap for me.
Yes, a trap.
A woman who could forge a birth-out-of-wedlock statement was capable of anything.
Maybe what she wanted was exactly this, for me to fight her tooth and nail.
I worked to steady my breathing.
"Miriam, I'm not even married, and you went and made me a birth-out-of-wedlock statement. Do you really think that's okay?"
"What's wrong with it? It's all for Justin's schooling, and nobody outside will ever know."
"And what if someone does find out? What if word gets around? Did you ever once think about what that would do to me?"
The words came out before she could stop them. "It's not like you'll ever get married anyway, so what does it matter?"
Realizing what she'd let slip, she rushed to backpedal.
"No, no, that's not what I meant. I mean this will never get out. Nobody will ever know, I promise."
It's not like I'll ever get married anyway?
I watched her eyes suddenly slide away from mine.
My stomach dropped.
These past two years I'd dated several men, and every time things were almost serious, they'd suddenly blocked me.
When I asked why.
They almost all said the same thing. "I never imagined you were that kind of woman."
Push any harder and they'd just stop answering.
I'd been confused all this time. Now it was starting to make sense.
It had to have something to do with this woman.
Let me take a wild guess.
She was afraid that once I found someone, registering the marriage would mean using my household records, and her filthy little scheme would come to light.
So she deliberately wrecked my relationships.
Could anyone really be that vile? I had to confirm it, and soon.
But right now I needed to keep her calm.
I drew a slow breath and said it on purpose.
"Actually, Justin's a smart kid. I like him a lot."
The moment she heard it, her face lit up.
"See? I knew I picked the right godmother."
She immediately posted my words, word for word, to the family group chat.
And made her solemn announcement.
【From today on, Letitia is Justin's godmother.】
【Letitia says she'll treat Justin as her own son, and that she'd make any sacrifice for him.】
A neat way to pull the rug out from under me, leaving me no room to turn things around.
