Comments Say the Baby Is My Grandson; I Insist He's an Imposter
Chapter 3
"Mom! You've lost your mind!"
"Give the baby back!"
My son chased after me.
Brooklyn had burst into panicked tears too.
She called the hotel front desk, sobbing to them.
"My mother-in-law has gone insane and snatched my child! She's trying to kill him!"
"Please! Please don't let her leave with the baby!"
The hotel reacted like it was facing a crisis, immediately locking the front doors to keep me from getting away.
They called in the security guards to surround and cut me off.
Seeing my son about to catch up with me, I had no choice but to duck into the elevator and press the button for the top floor.
Soon the elevator stopped at the stairwell on the top floor.
Still clutching the baby, I stumbled and shoved open the door to the rooftop.
I turned and locked it, sealing the pursuers out completely, and only then did I have a moment to catch my breath while holding the child.
Three minutes later, my son and Brooklyn caught up.
They grabbed at the door and found it wouldn't open, and, afraid I would harm the child, they pounded on it frantically and shouted from the other side.
"Mom! Calm down, calm down!"
"I've been by Brooklyn's side the whole time, from her pregnancy through every prenatal checkup. She has absolutely never done anything to wrong me!"
"Condemning her and the baby over one absurd dream just doesn't hold up!"
Brooklyn cried and begged me too.
"Mom! The baby really is Justin's! If you don't believe it, take him for a paternity test!"
"I know you don't like me. I can divorce Justin! I only beg you to spare the baby!"
But I only repeated the same thing to them.
"An ancestor's dream in a dream is never wrong. An outside bloodline has entered the family. The child cannot be of the Whitney line!"
"Son, don't take it so hard. Once I've dealt with this bastard, it will all be over!"
Holding the sleeping infant in my arms, I moved step by step toward the edge of the rooftop.
The wind whistled past my ears.
The online comments blew up.
What is this old woman trying to do? She isn't actually planning to kill the baby, is she?
Don't! We can testify, the baby really is your son's!
If you don't believe it, go pull the hospital records, or just get a paternity test done!
Can't the people above see it yet? This isn't her suspecting her daughter-in-law of cheating. She clearly resents that the grandson's birth stole away the attention she had at home.
Even with a paternity test, she'd kill him anyway!
I stared coldly at the comments in front of me.
They don't know a damn thing!
The Whitney family had one son for three generations running. To hold a grandson as soon as possible, I burned incense and prayed to the Buddha every single day.
After Brooklyn got pregnant, I cooked her something different and delicious every day, terrified my precious grandson would go hungry.
Before the child was even born, the gifts I'd prepared for him filled the entire nursery.
I looked forward to this child's arrival more than anyone.
That is exactly why I cannot accept that someone swapped a bastard for my grandson!
He deserves to die!
