Comments Say the Baby Is My Grandson; I Insist He's an Imposter

Chapter 4

3,363 words

I lifted the baby high above my head, ready to let go.

The next second, the rooftop door was kicked open from the outside!

Right after that, a group of police officers swarmed in and pinned me to the ground.

The baby was handed back to Brooklyn by the police.

Holding the child she had lost and gotten back again, she burst into tears on the spot.

But I cursed at the officer holding me down.

"Are you people insane?! I haven't committed any crime, so why are you arresting me?"

The officers were angrier than I was.

"Killing someone in broad daylight, and your own grandson at that, and you still say you're innocent?"

"If we hadn't gotten here in time, you'd have thrown this baby off the roof!"

But I still stuck out my neck stubbornly.

"He's not my grandson! He's a bastard!"

"Instead of looking for my grandson, the one who got switched, you're helping the villains who swapped him bully a poor old woman."

"Do you people have any conscience at all?"

My shouting was giving the officers a splitting headache.

My son stepped forward too and threw the rush-ordered paternity test in my face.

Pointing at the big words on it, "99.999% genetic similarity, parent-child relationship confirmed," he stressed to me.

"Mom, look carefully. I paid to have the paternity test rushed, and this baby is mine!"

"You wronged Brooklyn and nearly killed your own grandson! I'm sending you to jail!"

But Brooklyn took his hand and said with a gentle, considerate look.

"Let it go, honey. Mom didn't mean to. She just doesn't like me."

"Besides, nothing happened to the baby. As long as she promises never to hurt him again, that's enough."

Even the relatives kept praising me for being lucky enough to find such a wonderful daughter-in-law.

"Wanda, just listen to Brooklyn. Apologize to her sincerely and write out a promise, and from now on you're all still one family."

"Exactly! Where would you ever find a daughter-in-law this good? You nearly killed her baby, and she's still going out of her way to speak up for you."

"Don't throw kindness back in people's faces, or I swear I'll have you put away! Make you spend the rest of your life behind bars!"

"Fantasizing that her own daughter-in-law cheated. I think after all those years as a widow, she's the one who couldn't stand being lonely."

"That's why she measures everyone by herself and figures Brooklyn is the same kind of woman!"

They cursed me until I was in the dirt, and the online comments were telling me to admit fault and apologize too.

Enough already. First time I've ever seen someone in a jealous catfight with her own daughter-in-law.

It's not just the daughter-in-law. She wouldn't even spare her own newborn grandson.

Hurry up and apologize, and give your grandson all the gifts and the RV and everything you prepared, or this family really is going to fall apart!

Her daughter-in-law even spoke up for her. I'm crying. Where would you ever find a daughter-in-law this good?

Only I kept my eyes locked hard on Brooklyn in front of me and said, word by word.

"You can fool everyone else, but you can't fool me!"

"There's no way this child could be my grandson!"

As I spoke, ignoring Brooklyn's attempts to stop me, in front of everyone I suddenly threw back the swaddling cloth covering the baby's face.

The next second, everyone there covered their mouths in shock!
