“Audrey, what’s wrong?” Luke saw that I had not spoken for a long time and subconsciously frowned as he called out to me.

The flash of impatience in his eyes was clear to see.

The moment my hand touched his, an inexplicable pull came from my fingertips—it was the instinct of a fated mate.

I gritted my teeth, forced down that impulse, and shook off his hand.

“Thank you, Alpha Luke.”

After leaving those words behind, I turned and walked away, but Luke chased after me.

“I saved you, and all I get is one thank-you?”

“What, Alpha Luke, do you want me to become your mate to repay you?” I looked at Luke, my words sharp.

He was shocked by the way I acted.

That made sense, since at this point in my previous life, we did not know each other well, so by all logic, I should have been extremely grateful to him.

But the hatred from my previous life made it impossible for me to endure him at all.

While Luke was distracted, I had already gotten in the car and left.

After returning home, I looked at everything familiar, and my tears kept falling.

When my parents saw me crying, they thought Ethan had bullied me and hurriedly questioned me.

To keep them from worrying, I made up a random excuse and brushed it off.

But being able to see my parents again still made me very content.

In my previous life, after I was locked up, my parents searched for me many times without success and began to suspect that Luke might be harming me.

[Audrey, didn’t you say you would stay with me for the rest of your life? You won’t even come to one coming-of-age ceremony?]

[I miss you so much.]

The many messages meant that Ethan wanted me dead.

In the end, I replied with one message.

[I’ll be there.]

Ethan immediately replied right after.

[I’ll wait for you.]

In the past, the two of us had also messaged each other like this, and Ethan had even sworn to me, “From now on, I’ll always reply to your messages immediately.”

Ethan really had done it, but everything changed after Maya appeared.

I did not understand how Maya had changed Ethan in just half a year.
