The Vice President's Revenge

I thought that Lucas and I would enter a cold war from then on.

I never expected that the very next day, he'd show up at my house.

"Serena, are you done with your tantrum? Hurry up and come back with me."

Lucas's eyes were filled with impatience.

"A project at the company has hit a snag. Come back and deal with it, and I'll let everything that happened before slide."

I laughed coldly.

In the seven years we were together, through every fight, big or small, I was always the one to back down.

Now, the first time Lucas ever swallowed his pride, it was because he wanted me to come back and keep being his unpaid labor.

"In your dreams. We're done. Why should I still listen to you?"

I pulled out the resignation letter my assistant had prepared and threw it right at him.

"From now on, whether Grey Corporation lives or dies, it's none of my business."

Seeing the resignation letter, Lucas's condescending expression finally flickered.

It was only then he realized I truly wanted to leave.

"Serena! I don't agree to this." A hint of panic crept into Lucas's voice. "What gives you the right to just leave like that? What do you take the company for?"

"Besides, Grey is about to go public. The future is bright. What good does it do you to leave and start over?"

"You're 27 this year. Spend another five years grinding, and you'll be a complete old hag. Who's going to want you then?"

My heart went completely cold.

So, Lucas thought I was getting old and had no other options, which was why he disrespected me.

At that moment, I felt a profound sense of doubt about my taste in men.

"Don't worry about me. Get out."

I spoke without any expression.

Unfortunately for Lucas, I'd have to disappoint him. By leaving him, I was only moving on to better options.

Seeing my resolve, Lucas stood up angrily. "Serena, why are you so stubborn? Do you have to go after a young girl like Rose?"

"She saved my life. That's why I gave her the VP position. Can't you just try to see it from my perspective?"

I froze. "What do you mean?"

"A while ago on a business trip, I drank a spiked drink. If it weren't for Rose... using herself as the antidote, I wouldn't have made it back."

Lucas's face was full of emotion. "When I woke up, she even offered to not hold me responsible, saying she just wanted me to be okay."

"For such a debt of gratitude, giving her a VP position isn't too much, is it?"

His words hung in the air, and the room fell into a deathly silence.

I raised my hand and slapped him across the face, hard.

"Lucas, you're disgusting."

"What 'using herself as an antidote'? Isn't that just cheating? You even have Rose's underwear in your study at home, and you have the nerve to dress it up so nobly."

Lucas's cheek instantly flushed a bright red and swelled up.

A flash of guilt darted through his eyes. "Let me explain, it's not what you think."

"Serena, you're the only one in my heart, I swear. But who doesn't like young and pretty things? It was just a momentary lapse."

"But the person I want to marry has always been you."

Just then, the door suddenly swung open.

My grandma had been standing outside, listening for who knows how long.

She hobbled in on her cane and started hitting Lucas. "Get out! As long as I'm alive, I will never allow you to go near my granddaughter."

"She wasted seven years on you, and you still have the nerve to be so shameless?"

Lucas could only flee in a sorry state.

My grandma's expression was terrible. She sat on the sofa, clutching her chest. "Serena, you've been wronged."

"It's all Grandma's fault. I should have seen Lucas for the bad man he is sooner."

In the next second, my grandma's expression suddenly changed.

She slipped off the sofa and fell heavily to the floor.
